In keeping with a tradition that began in 1976, Galeries Lafayette Paris Haussmann is putting up a spectacular Christmas tree under the dome, capturing the imagination of children and adults alike.

This year, the tree features the iconic toys of 1, 2, 3, CHRISTMAS! along with a space-age Santa twirling around the dome. Every 30 minutes, the lights go out for a sound and light show to reveal the toys coming to life, as if by magic…

Galeries Lafayette - Christmas Tree

As the Christmas countdown gets closer, the iconic toys in Galeries Lafayette come to life every night to play their favourite game, 1, 2, 3, CHRISTMAS! One night, quite by chance, they discover a door leading to the North Pole. On their arrival in every child’s favourite village, they’re greeted by Santa and the elves, who are busy preparing all the Christmas gifts. The toys feel everybody is working too hard, so they decide to throw a huge party that very evening. All the dolls, teddy bears, robots, superheroes, recycled toys and crazy, futuristic gadgets team up with the elves to play their favourite game, 1, 2, 3, CHRISTMAS! Gathered around the big fir tree in the village square, the toys start the music and: 1 string the Christmas lights around the tree, 2 hang up some colourful decorations, 3 toss on some sparkles, and CHRISTMAS!

The lights come on to reveal the Christmas tree in all its glory. The toys, the elves and Santa are all wide-eyed and immediately want to play the game again. On Christmas Eve, everybody leaves the village to deliver their gifts and celebrate Christmas under the dome. Entranced by the giant Christmas tree and the reflections from the stainedglass windows, the toys decide to play another game: they slide along the branches, add more decorations and send gifts flying. But when Galeries Lafayette opens again the following morning, the toys freeze into stillness on the tree, to be sure of winning the game. Then every half hour, when the music in the department store starts to play, they begin their dance again, bringing all the decorations on the tree to magical life.
