For the Normandy Impressionist Festival, a host of events are being organised throughout the Normandy region, to the delight of young and old alike. The fifth edition runs from 22 March to 22 September 2024, 150 years after the birth of this artistic movement.

Normandie Impressionniste is a multidisciplinary festival that explores Impressionism in all its forms, while also presenting contemporary art. Like an artistic bridge between the past and the present, the programme invites visitors to embark on an artistic journey from the 19th century to the present day.

Waiting for 2024...

Impressionist exhibitions, events, festivals... From Rouen to Giverny, via Caen and Le Havre, in 2024 the whole of Normandy will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of the Impressionist movement, the main theme of the fifth edition of the Normandie Impressionniste festival.

Although details of the programme have yet to be announced, two exhibitions are expected. At the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Rouen, the artist James Abbott McNeill Whistler, inspired by Japanese art, invites visitors to enter into an artistic dialogue with Claude Monet and Gustave Courbet, two great figures of the Impressionist movement. Another highlight of the festival is the "Cathedral of Light", a sound and light show projected onto Rouen Cathedral throughout the summer by the American director and visual artist Robert Wilson, a leading figure in New York avant-garde theatre.

Twenty or so Impressionist exhibitions, as well as contemporary art and photography.

Now in its fifth year, the Normandie Impressionniste festival celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Impressionist movement, while highlighting its innovative character and giving pride of place to young artists.

Normandie Impressionniste aims to revisit this movement and show that it was inextricably linked to the social upheavals of its time, while remaining very contemporary. The programme includes around twenty Impressionist exhibitions, thirty or so exhibitions of contemporary art and photography, as well as a host of multi-disciplinary events.

Like all the innovations known during the Impressionist period, Normandy Impressionnist takes into account all forms of artistic creations. From painting to music, to dance, photography, cinema, sounds and lights, there will be something for everyone!

The Normandy Impressionist Festival is an opportunity to explore the region in a new light. It is also the perfect chance to live the experiences of these artists and to walk in the footsteps of the Impressionists
