From 21 of June to 3 November 2024, the village of La Gacilly in Brittany will be transformed into a huge open-air gallery highlighting the fragile beauty of the Earth for the La Gacilly Photo Festival. More topical than ever, the issues related to environmental protection will be the focus of this 2024 edition.

A look back at the 2023 edition

In 2023, the La Gacilly Photo Festival will honour 20 French and international artists: Brazil, Ivory Coast, Iran, Japan, Italy, the United States or France, the exhibition routes of this anniversary edition will highlight talented photographers from the four corners of the planet who will offer their views on the state of the world, the environmental issue and its repercussions.

Visitors travel to the heart of the Amazon and the endangered Pantanal Nature Reserve with Sebastião Salgado and Brent Stirton, encounter astonishing thousand-year-old trees in California captured by Beth Moon's lens, before projecting themselves into the future by discovering the cities of the future imagined by Luca Locatelli.

Highlights of the festival

In addition to the exhibition tours - to be discovered on your own (with the possibility of participating in a photo rally) or as part of guided or fun tours dedicated to children - several events will punctuate the summer in La Gacilly. During the opening weekend, on 3 and 4 June 2023, signing sessions, conferences and exhibition visits in the presence of the artists will be offered, as well as portfolio readings to enable young photographers to make themselves known. On the occasion of the European Heritage Days (21 and 22 September 2024), behind-the-scenes tours of the festival and open-air film screenings will also be scheduled.

A village in the pictures

Created in 2004, the La Gacilly Photo Festival aims, edition after edition, to alert and make people think about the future of our planet. It offers its visitors a free immersive and wandering experience in the heart of some thirty open-air galleries in large format. The best of contemporary photography is presented there, in colour or black and white, on canvases sometimes approaching 70 square metres. Thousands of images are displayed on the built heritage of Brittany, which is transformed for a summer into a green museum defending the cause of our planet.

Recommendations and advice: What better way to get to an environmentally-friendly event than by eco-responsible transport? Take the TER BreizGo train from any station in Brittany to Redon station. A free shuttle will then take you to La Gacilly! For the event, bring a reusable cup or get one on site to drink without using disposable glass.
