The transformation of the building was led by Japanese architect Tadao Ando, whose intervention introduces a striking concrete cylinder at the heart of the rotunda. Minimal yet powerful, this architectural gesture creates a new spatial experience while preserving the integrity of the historic structure.
The result is a seamless interplay between heritage and modernity, where light, volume, and materiality guide visitors through a contemplative and immersive environment.
Pinault Collection : A Collector’s Gaze
The museum presents works from the Pinault Collection, assembled over several decades by French collector François Pinault. One of the world's leading private collections of contemporary art, it spans a wide range of media and artistic practices. Alongside the Bourse de Commerce in Paris, the collection is also presented in Venice at Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana, two major cultural venues that have helped establish the Pinault Collection as an international destination for contemporary art.
The collection includes major American artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Cindy Sherman, and Kerry James Marshall, reflecting the strong presence of American voices within a global artistic landscape and underscoring the enduring dialogue between France and the United States.
