It is reassuring to know that when you choose l’Occitane, you can indulge in a little pampering without doing any harm to our planet.

On vacation, there’s something supremely satisfying about body care rituals. Before stepping out of your accommodation in search of enriching adventures, savour the sensation of a floral, fruity or woody perfume as it gently graces your wrist. Engaging the senses in these moments, time seems to steady, or even stand still.

Evening body rituals are equally enjoyable once the day’s discoveries are done, or downloaded. Nourish and enrich a travel-weary body with the subtly-scented, rich, Almond Shower Oil body wash for example. Or apply a calming Shea Butter Hand Cream, while recalling holiday highlights. And in the day’s drowsiest moments, just before slipping into slumber, making time to soften and enrich the skin with an Immortelle Reset Oil-in-Serum.

French brand L’Occitane, maker of beauty, skin and wellbeing products which are ever popular additions to travellers’ suitcases, bathrooms and bedrooms, is a company whose values are centred on protecting the planet. Today’s sophisticated global shoppers – whether seeking luxe or everyday goods – expect no less L’Occitane’s environmental commitments – from sustaining lands to regenerating ecosystems – have been fundamentals from the company’s earliest days

Picturesque Provence – home to bewitching purple-hued scenery and fragrant lavender fields – is where Olivier Baussan, back in 1976, started distilling rosemary and lavender essential oils to sell at local markets. He took the business from oils, to soaps and creams and today L’Occitane has a global reach across more than 90 countries. The town of Manosque in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur remains the hub of product development.

Thinking Globally, Acting Locally at L' Occitane

With global growth comes global-conscious commitments: acting ethically and eco-consciously locally, to enact change globally. For 46 years, L’Occitane has maintained this commitment via local partnerships and community projects. L’Occitane was the first Australian beauty brand, in partnership with TerraCycle, to encourage shoppers to recycle empty beauty and skincare packaging.

This initiative has prevented 21 tonnes of beauty waste from entering Australian landfill. Refill fountains and ‘forever bottles’ (available at Bondi, NSW; Doncaster, VIC; Chermside, QLD; Booragoon, WA and Hobart, TAS boutiques) are further steps they’ve introduced to tackle beauty waste.

Caring For Sight

From donating percentages of profits through sales of limited-edition skin and body products to UNICEF, to braille on all of their packaging, L’Occitane is demonstrating its social commitment to caring for sight. Here in Australia, L’Occitane is helping restore sight locally, and closing the gap in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander eye health in partnership with The Fred Hollows Foundation.

Respecting Biodiversity

Six years ago L’Occitane set a global objective to protect 1,000 varieties and species of plants by 2025; this has already been exceeded. Locally, in partnership with the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife (FNPW), L’Occitane contributed $228,000 as part of an initial two-year commitment to help regenerate the Australian bush after the 2019-2020 bushfires. Already, thousands of seedlings grown in bushfire recovery nurseries in affected areas are being established in the soil. The goal is to plant one million trees over five years.
