Discover the diversity of nature in the Massif du Vercors

Along the rocky routes criss-crossing this mountain range, the views will take your breath away. Amid a stunning landscape of steep cliffs, the Vercors extends across an area of 186,000 hectares and two departments: the Isère and the Drome.

An outpost of the French Alps, it boasts a series of remarkable landscapes in which the contrasts are stunning, ranging from Alpine pastures in the north to sunny hillsides in the south.

Wide inhabited valleys, forests and plateaux, deep gorges and abyssal cliffs such as Combe Laval combine to create a backdrop of natural monuments, further embellished by incredible flora and fauna.

A land where man and nature come together, the Vercors also boasts an impressive cultural heritage.

The Parc Naturel Régional du Vercors is a fine example of this harmony. It is home to the Réserve Naturelle des Hauts-Plateaux, officially designated as a nature reserve in 1985, which is the dominant feature within the mountain range and covers an area of 17,000 hectares devoid of roads or habitation. The forests, mountain meadows, limestone outcrops and cliffs which combine to create the area’s stunning landscapes are all protected. Le Grand Veymont, the highest peak in the range, looks down upon this impressive scene of solitude and grandeur.

A region with many facets

A little further away you can enjoy the dynamic character of the Vercors’ family-focused ski resorts, such as Villard de Lans-Corrençon en Vercors, Autrans, Méaudre, Lans en Vercors-St Nizier du Moucherotte and Les Coulmes, which between them offer a contrast with the legendary calm of the high plateaux.
A paradise for snowshoe trekking, spellbinding nature, wellbeing and spa treatments, culture and traditions, as well as local specialities and products, the Massif du Vercors offers wonderful skiing and winter pursuits for all ages and abilities, and is the perfect setting for a week-long family holiday, a romantic weekend or a break with friends.
