The New Aquitaine or Nouvelle Aquitaine region located in the South west of France, welcomes visitors to a climate that is sunny and gentle.

Nouvelle Aquitaine and its beaches

We have beaches of fine sand, and ideal venues for water sports, hence the nickname "Glissicon Valley". You can enjoy winter and summer sports, what with the Pyrenees mountains in the South of the region located by the border with Spain and the Atlantic coast and its numerous seaside resorts such as La Rochelle, Arcachon, Hossegor, Biarritz….

The famous wines and spirits names and cuisine of Nouvelle Aquitaine

Our highlights are: Bordeaux the capital of the region, the vineyards which are spread around Bordeaux with famous names such as Saint-Emilion, Médoc, Sauternes, Cognac etc… The region has a varied gastronomy to offer : truffles, foie gras, oysters…which are easy to match with great wines from Bordeaux and around.

Historical sites and cities

We are also proud of our historical sites from the Lascaux cave in Dordogne to Oradour-sur-Glane, a centre commemorating a martyred village during the 2WW, including Poitiers and the Futuroscope new entertaining activity. Many are listed as UNESCO World Heritage.

There are various labels to emphasize remarkable sites and cities of art and history as well as quaint towns packed with personality.

Celebrities from Nouvelle Aquitaine Bordeaux

Important personalities have left their mark on the territory: Aliénor d’Aquitaine, Henri IV, Richard the Lionheart, François 1er, Jean Monnet, and François Mitterrand, further enhancing the appeal of the territory.
