The Story Behind the Alliance
During the American Revolution, France provided critical military, financial, and diplomatic support to the American colonies, helping secure their independence and laying the foundation for a lasting friendship between the two nations.
At the time, Versailles stood at the center of French political life. It was here that King Louis XVI and his government made decisions that would shape the course of the conflict, while influential figures such as Benjamin Franklin worked to strengthen ties between France and the emerging United States.
More than two centuries later, the Palace of Versailles remains a powerful symbol of the alliance forged during the American Revolution and the enduring friendship between France and the United States.
