From June to August, the lavender fields in France are in full bloom! That means, rows of purple as far as you can see, rolling over hills and into the sunset. To walk in a field of lavender is almost as relaxing as the effect of the plant’s own aromatic qualities. Since we could totally use an escape right now, put on some soothing music, and imagine you taking a virtual walk in these lavender fields. Sheer bliss!

A LANDSCAPE WITH NO END

How can you not be enchanted by the calming, delicate fragrance and dusky purple hues? The perfectly aligned bushes create a beautiful geometry, and when the fields are slightly rolling, it’s like looking at a beautiful, purple wave. If only the lavender season in Provence would be a year-round affair.

FRAME-WORTHY VISTAS

The lavender fields in Valensole are perhaps the most famous and photographed in not only Provence, but in the world. Uninterrupted views of lavender with seemingly perfectly placed trees – it’s every photographer’s dream!

THE BEST SUNSET EXPERIENCE

Towards sunset, you can lie down on the soft ground to see rays of sunlight passing through the swaying lavender branches, each of the lavender flowers glistening as the sun spreads its warm glow and the wind huffs gently. You hear armies of bees hustling around pollinating the millions of lavenders. This is the moment when you truly feel like you are closest to nature.

MORE THAN JUST AN AROMATIC PLANT

While we’re on our purple-tinged route through hilly villages and fortified towns to find the prettiest blooms, we’ll let you in on one thing; lavender is not just a fragrant plant, there’s more to this herb than you may know. Lavender is commonly used for medicinal and therapeutic benefits. It helps improve sleep, treat skin blemishes, soothe minor burns and reduce anxiety. Impressive, right?

LEADING THE WAY

Approaching the village of Sault is a spectacle – the road leading up to this village offers views of the plateau full of lavender. Whether you’re gazing at the lavender fields from this perched village, or standing right in the heart of it - its inebriating fragrance is everywhere. You’ll find lavender in various forms- delicate tasting lavender honey, teas, syrups, ice cream, nougats, candles, and essential oils – ensuring that the memory of its scent will follow you back home.

TAKE A MOMENT AND BREATHE

It’s important to disconnect once in a while, and it’s here, in this no-network area of Provence, where you’ll feel free, away from daily chaos. Stop. Breathe. Reflect. Isn’t it true that the lavender fields enhance the beauty of any object placed in its field of vision? Just like the sublime Abbaye Notre – Dame de Sénanque, a 12th century Cistercian Abbey.

A STRIKING JUXTAPOSITION

To some, there’s nothing that epitomises the appeal of Provence more than the purple rows of lavender that pepper the landscape every summer. And sometimes, if you’re lucky, you get to experience the best of both worlds! Sunflowers standing tall with their bold yellow petals, beside a field of perfectly grown lavender; it’s a sight- and scent - to behold!
