Jules & Jenn: trainers made in France
Timeless style and sustainable products: at Jules & Jenn, we advocate sensible consumption with leather goods designed to last. Bags, shoes, small leather goods and even belts are produced in French workshops as well as in Spain, Portugal and Italy, using ethical and natural materials to minimise the impact on the environment.
Among the brand's flagship creations, the made in France unisex trainers are handcrafted in a workshop in Montjean-sur-Loire, a seafaring village on the banks of the Loire between Angers and Nantes. Resistant and comfortable, they are available in grained leathers, suedes, monochrome or two-tone versions. The brand also offers a trainer model made entirely from recycled materials, manufactured in Portugal.
1083: jeans... but not just jeans!
Thomas Huriez, founder of 1083, a brand based in Romans-sur-Isère in the Drôme region of France, has set himself the challenge of manufacturing jeans and shoes less than 1,083 kilometres from their wearer. Why 1083? Because it's the distance in kilometres between Menton on the Côte d'Azur and Porspoden in Brittany, the two most remote towns in France. The challenge was met with the creation of the first jeans to be spun, woven, made, washed and inspected in France.
And the brand is going even further, using organic cotton and recycled materials, as well as an eco-wash using a laser machine that saves 95% water and 75% energy compared with conventional washing. As well as a range of jeans for men, women and children, 1083 also offers eco-designed shoes made in Romans-sur-Isère or the Dordogne, as well as jumpers, t-shirts, shorts, jackets, etc. 1083
Maison Izard: 100% Pyrenean jumpers
In the mood for a cosy jumper to wrap yourself up in as you brave the winter temperatures? Maison Izard is bringing this natural material up to date with its creations in Pyrenean wool. Collected from all over the Pyrenees, the wool is then spun, woven or knitted in factories that have been awarded the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company) label in the Tarn. The result is jumpers, coats, hats and socks that are warm, soft, breathable and comfortable, thanks to the addition of other materials such as recycled cotton. It's a lovely way to keep the ancestral craft of Pyrenean wool alive.
Le Slip Français: blue-white-red ‘from thread to box
Created in 2011, the brand originally specialised in men's underwear made in France, as its name suggests! Since then, the Slip Français range has been extended to include women's wear and, more broadly, ready-to-wear, accessories and swimwear made in France ‘from the thread to the box’. All the garments are made less than 250 km from the consumer's home, in partner workshops, thus promoting blue-white-and-red know-how.
Using organic cotton and recycled fibres, Le Slip Français also pays close attention to the ecological footprint of the materials used. The brand is part of the first residence of La Caserne, an ecological transition accelerator dedicated to the European fashion and luxury sector in Paris. Le Slip Français La Caserne
Semper & Adhuc: a nod to programmed obsolescence
Sustainable watches, both in their design and in their use, is the credo of Semper & Adhuc, which combines an old, restored mechanism with the creation of eco-designed bracelets. From the machining of the cases to the assembly of the watches and the manufacture of the hands and dials, each stage in the production of the watches calls on the skills of French watchmaking craftsmen and industrialists.
Designed to last, Semper & Adhuc watches thumb their noses at programmed obsolescence thanks to their robust, repairable materials. The hardest part will be choosing from among the brand's ranges, which can also be made to measure. Semper & Adhuc
