Endurance, strength, mental toughness. With its eight-kilometre run interspersed with eight strength-training stations, the Hyrox puts the body through its paces. It’s therefore best to prepare thoroughly for the race, especially when temperatures rise. Have you too been swept up in the Hyrox craze and are looking for your next challenge? There’s nothing quite like combining a sporting competition with a city break. Paris, Lyon, Nice, Toulouse or Bordeaux: it’s up to you to choose your playground and aim for your best time. One thing’s for sure: these five French cities are bursting with energy.

30 September to 4 October 2026

For the second time, the Hyrox is stopping off in Bordeaux for five days combining pushing your limits with the art of living. If you’d rather not be reeling from kettlebells, you’d be better off saving the fine wines for after the race. As for the climb up the Dune du Pilat, Europe’s highest dune at 115 metres overlooking the Arcachon basin, it’s up to you whether you tackle it before or after the competition. An unmissable experience either way.

You simply can’t miss the famous water mirror opposite Place de la Bourse, or the Cité du Vin in the modern Bassins à Flot district, home to the Bassins des Lumières. To recharge your batteries at the end of the day, head to the Darwin ecosystem, a former barracks converted into a vibrant community space, featuring restaurants, shops and eco-friendly initiatives, including the Magasin Général, considered Europe’s largest organic bistro. Or simply settle down on the terrace at La Belle Saison with a view of the Garonne. Medal around your neck, of course.

29 October to 1 November 2026

Get ready to take on an exceptional sporting challenge on the French Riviera. No stranger to major sporting events, Nice attracts numerous athletes every year who come to enjoy the mild southern climate during the late season.

Under the French Riviera sun, it’s best to pack light: here, the temperatures are likely to ramp up the intensity a notch. But what a pleasure it is to train between the sea and the mountains. Recharge your batteries with a socca in Old Nice, stroll along the famous Promenade des Anglais and set off to discover the magnificent villages of the hinterland. The most motivated runners will even extend their stay by a week: the following weekend sees the Nice Marathon, which has become one of France’s must-attend running events.

March 2027 (dates to be confirmed)

Head to Toulouse, the city of aeronautics and space, nicknamed the ‘Pink City’ for its terracotta brick façades. A colour that might well bring a flush to your cheeks when thousands of participants gather at the MEETT, the exhibition centre on Avenue Concorde, to tackle a series of challenges.

And if you still have energy left after the race, the Aeroscopia museum, located right next door, is well worth a visit. Over 40 aircraft are on display there, and you can even try out a virtual reality flight simulator.

To keep the sporting spirit alive, why not try to catch a rugby match: Toulouse remains France’s rugby capital. Finally, to debrief on the competition, head to the banks of the Garonne or the Carmes district, with its covered market, colourful façades, bustling alleyways and numerous gourmet spots. A weekend in Toulouse definitely goes by far too quickly.

April 2027 (dates to be confirmed)

It is hard to imagine a more spectacular setting for a Hyrox competition. In Paris, the true star of the event remains the Grand Palais itself, with its monumental dimensions, vast glass roof and impressive metal structures.

Fully restored in time for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the monument reopened its doors in 2025 and now welcomes participants to a unique setting for a series of burpees, sled pushes and wall balls. The previous edition was fully booked: so it’s best to plan ahead if you hope to secure a race number.

And to turn the event into a proper sports weekend, extend your stay by a few days to recover. From trendy food markets to running spots in the streets of Paris and relaxing breaks in the capital’s most beautiful parks (especially if you’re feeling sore), the city offers a thousand ways to celebrate your sporting achievement.

May 2027 (dates to be confirmed)

Lyon hosted its very first Hyrox event in 2026, confirming the city’s sporting potential. The competitions take place at Eurexpo Lyon, a few kilometres from the city centre, in one of France’s largest exhibition centres.

Lyon is the perfect place to test your endurance. Climb the steps to the Basilica of Fourvière, lose yourself in the Vieux-Lyon and stroll or run along the banks of the Rhône. Before or after the race, you simply can’t miss the famous Lyonnais bouchons, those traditional restaurants where you can sample the region’s finest specialities. After all, you’re in the capital of French gastronomy. As for the wine, it’s best to save it for after the race… your burpees will thank you!
