It's a family affair

The city of Vonnas, Ain, in south-eastern France, is home to the rich gastronomic story of Georges Blanc, spanning a century and a half and four generations.

Stay a while at Village Blanc (‘White Village’): a place of restoration where the only must-do items involve unwinding, dining and a spot of shopping.

In France, chef and restaurateur Georges Blanc is a household name and a chef and restaurateur who has consistently held three Michelin stars since 1981 at Restaurant Georges Blanc in Vonnas – a feat almost unheard of in France. In fact, just two chefs have held three prized Michelin stars for longer than Georges: Michel Troisgros of Les Bois sans Feuilles in Ouches and Michel Guérard of Les Prés d´Eugénie. Visitors to Village Blanc typically spend a few nights within Georges’ feted village which in 2022 spans a generous four hectares. Wholly dedicated to the French art de vivre, the village pace is reliably laid back. Guests can linger at luxe hotels, purchase gastronomic goodies, dine at highly respected local restaurants or even unwind over a local movie.

Village people

Lovers of five-star luxury are catered for at Hotel Georges Blanc Parc & Spa. There’s the riverside, half-timbered house of Hôtel Les Saules Parc & Spa, or the four-star Hôtel Du Bois Blanc, two minutes from Vonnas in the exceptional chateau site of Epeyssoles. Hôtel Du Bois Blanc features private terraces set against a magnificent swimming pool and a backdrop of lakes, pastures and ancient forest.

Gourmet appeal

For fans of wine and liquors, the famous wine cellar La Cave à Manger is recognised as one of the world’s finest and most extensive, with more than 140,000 bottles. The 1,500 square metre Gastronomic Shop is a foodie’s paradise. Dining out? Head to Restaurant Georges Blanc, or L’Ancienne Auberge (The Old Inn).

Wander over to Dovecote Park (equally scenic, day or evening) and walk off earlier gastronomic indulgences. Alternatively, stroll to the outdoor museum for an in-depth look at the Georges Blanc story.

For those seeking to explore or stay beyond the village, your adventure at Georges Blanc’s empire extends to the 18th century castle Château d’Igé in the Mâconnais wine region, an 18th century farmhouse among the vines in Beaujolais (35 minutes away) and the Saint-Laurent in Saint-Laurent-sur-Saône (20 minutes away).
