Do you want to know everything there is to know about the climats, the micro-terroir vineyards that have shaped Burgundy? Head for the three wine tourism sites of the brand new Cité des climats et vins de Bourgogne: Beaune, the heart of the project, Chablis and Mâcon. With their unique architecture linked to the history of the famous Unesco-listed climats, immersive or playful sensory experiences, each site is a gateway to a particular region of Burgundy's prestigious vineyards. We'll take you there!

An innovative architecture

Tendrils evoke the trellising of the vine and the perpetual movement at work in the vineyard, which you walk along to a panoramic platform 21 metres high... In Beaune, the capital of Burgundy wines, at the world-renowned Hospices, the site, built from bio-sourced materials (wooden framework, hemp concrete, local stone), is a veritable ode to the vineyards and to architecture, as is the site in Mâcon, with its spectacular design and tower inspired by wine-press screws standing 17 metres above the banks of the Saône! The more traditional Chablis site was created in the historic cellar of the Petit Pontigny monks (12th century), but it has been flanked by a new contemporary wing in wood, stainless steel and concrete, respecting the ancient heritage and eco-responsible requirements.

Immersive sensory experiences

Immerse yourself in the world of Burgundy wine and vineyards using all five senses? That's what the Cité des Climats et vins de Bourgogne is offering, with immersive multi-sensory tours of its three sites. Over the course of twenty or so stages, you can smell the aromas, touch the materials and discover the secrets of a thousand-year-old epic, from geological formation to the tireless labour of the winegrowers who have shaped the plots, via the winemaking process and the history of the adaptation of the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grape varieties. Each tour is accompanied by an introduction to wine (or grape juice) tasting from a selection of Burgundy appellations. In Beaune, home to the main terroir interpretation centre, there are also 45-minute workshops and wine-tasting courses organised by the Burgundy Wine School. And don't forget to check the calendar: guided tours, themed tours, shows, temporary exhibitions...

A fun trail for children

Little hideaways to learn while having fun: in each of the sites of The Cité des Climats et vins de Bourgogne, a trail dedicated to children offers immersive and fun experiences. The history of the vine, fossils, the vine cycle, bunches of grapes and cabottes (huts used as shelters in the vineyards)... Your children will soon know everything there is to know about the Burgundy Climats! To captivate them a little more, dramatised guided tours are also organised, as are creative activity workshops to make and learn about the world of Burgundy wine in a fun way. And at the end of the tour, there's a compulsory tasting of grape juice, of course!

Want to continue your discovery of the Burgundy Climats? Each site invites you to continue the adventure by exploring the region's cellars and vineyards, from Chablis in the north to Mâcon in the south, gateway to the Mâcon Côte Chalonnaise, Côtes du Couchois and Mâconnais vineyards, via Beaune in the centre. Don't miss a visit to the Hôtel-Dieu des Hospices de Beaune, a jewel of flamboyant Gothic architecture, before taking the The Route des Grands Crus (Wine Route), between the village of Gevrey Chambertin, home to 9 grands crus, the legendary Château du Clos de Vougeot and the bucolic hillsides of Meursault.
