Paris: An autumn highlighted by design and contemporary art

The leaves of the trees reflect hues of amber, the days are slowly starting to shorten... that can only mean one thing: autumn prepares for its big come back in the capital – with a celebration of art and design. There’s a fabulous programme for the fall season in Paris including: Paris Design Week, FIAC and Nuit Blanche. Mark your diaries!

Paris Design Week opens the season as we slowly slide towards the autumn. From September 6, overlapping with the famous Maison & Objet show, Paris Design Week invites art lovers and those who are inquisitive to wander its galleries and showrooms to discover the latest collections of designers from both the French and international scenes. Its easy to lose yourself in the colours unearthed from the archives of Atelier Mériguet-Carrère of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, famed creator of paint and high-end wallpaper. You can’t help but admire the hanging lamp known as "Hutte", born of a collaboration between designer Matali Crasset and the historic store of Roger Pradier in the 9th arrondissement. Slip into the stylish bathroom of a Parisian at the showroom of THG Paris, Boulevard Haussmann, as they present a collaboration with the decorator and interior designer Stephanie Coutas. Finally, discover great new designers of the future at the exhibition Le Off, which takes place this year at Ground Control, an area of shops, bars and culture close to the Gare de Lyon.

Nuit Blanche – the sleepless night…

Continue on your artistic stroll in Paris, but this time after dark - for Nuit Blanche. On the night of October 6 to 7, the city transforms into an open-air art gallery. Under the artistic direction of Gaël Charbau (art critic and curator), the 11th festival is organized around four routes called "Constellations", featuring the most emblematic places of Paris: Les Invalides, Pont Alexandre III and the Grand Palais and Petit Palais; l’île Saint-Louis the Hôtel de Ville and Les Halles; La Villette and its park plus east of Paris from the Palais de la Porte Dorée to the Zoological Park along the banks of Lac Daumesnil. This is an extraordinary and aesthetic opportunity to rediscover the capital through the prism of art under the sparkling stars.

International Fair of Contemporary Art (FIAC)

On the occasion of its 45th edition, the International Contemporary Art Fair (better known by the abbreviation FIAC), brings together under the dome of the Grand Palais, some 200 galleries from around the world. And the party doesn’t end there as this grand event spills out into the Petit Palais, the Tuileries Garden, Place Vendôme and Place de la Concorde with a programme "Hors les Murs" (Outside the Walls) open to all.

Art Élysées - Art & Design

FIAC heralds a plethora of events dedicated to contemporary art including Art Élysées - Art & Design which takes place from 18 to 22 October on the famed avenue of the Champs-Élysées. Discover three temporary pavilions and a hundred or so galleries displaying works of modern and contemporary art, as well as designer furniture.
