Paris - American Volunteer Monument

Dedicated in 1923 by Raymond Poincare’ and paid for by private subscription in France, the statue honors Americans who volunteered in service of France during World War One. It memorializes the names of 24 Citizens of the United States who fell in that service. The Bronze statue is that of Alan Seeger whose verse is inscribed on the base. He was killed in action July 4, 1916, a volunteer with the French Foreign Legion.
