The beaches of the Mediterranean as you’ve never seen them before

Why not take a look at the resorts of the south of France with fresh eyes? This is what artist Maia Flore did with a poetic vibe and a hint of humour. She shares her interpretation of some of the most legendary beaches on the French Mediterranean coast…

Collioure

Collioure is like a magnet to painters thanks to its quality of light, essential for artists. Here, the light bounces off the walls and every hour of the day offers a new dazzling display. From the quays to the top of the Citadel designed by Vauban, Louis XIV’s military engineer, it is in colour that we breathe the air of the city.

Bastia

The town of Bastia offers itself to those who let go. It is necessary to dive in, accept getting lost, and allow yourself to be surprised by the postcards of the past: old wash houses, mangles and washing hanging on balconies as you stroll the lanes. Above, the lighthouse and the Citadel can be seen from afar – they share the same mission: one a guide for the sea, the other for the city. It is by looking up, that we find our way.

Calvi

The sound of memory. That day on the beach with its pine trees, strollers gathered around us, curious about the scene that we were preparing. Suddenly, three singers joined their voices together in Corsican harmony, and in their songs we heard the souls of all those who preceded them.

Sainte-Maxime

"What use is a bridge?"
"They say it's thanks to the bridge that everything holds together."
"The Pont de Preconil can be seen from the sea, the beach and even the city."
"Well, it all depends on your mood. From afar, the eye falls on the bridge at random and sees the great work. At its feet, it is behind the columns that you may play and hide yourself."

Bormes-les-Mimosas

Fort Brégançon welcomes distinguished guests but it is in the authenticity of flowers that we entrust the key to the city. The yellow mimosas and the pink bougainvillea blossoms extend to the streets of the medieval village, stewards of this destination with their dazzling colours.

Cassis

We hear much about the beautiful Cap Canaille and its soaring altitude of 363 metres. At the bottom of the creek, surrounded by high rock facades, the artist likes to blur the slopes. It is horizontally that she will call the sea to visit her on earth.

Leucate

On the beach of Franqui, the wind is master. We come from far away to enjoy the honour of being pushed by its strength as it swoops down the stretch of sand at full speed.

Cap d'Agde

On Grande Conque beach, we walk on an old volcano. Maia Flore sprang up, like the eruptions that gave the place its intense black sand. Married to the blue water with finesse, as if to reveal that the land and the sea are not enemies but lovers.
