Holiday Events at Galeries Lafayette

ART

Echoing the theme of our Spectacular,Spectacular event, from December 2017 to February 2018 the Galerie des Galeries will feature an exhibition created by Arlène Berceliot Courtin on the theme of A Moveable Feast1.The title refers to our daily, spontaneous celebration of life, whether to mark an ordinary day or a special occasion. It also refers to Hemingway’s wanderings through Paris in the roaring twenties, which have since inspired other novels such as Enrique Vila-Matas’ ‘Never Any End to Paris’.These various stories and characters are brought together to form a potential newfiction. The exhibition’s key theme is the kind of moveable celebrations that are held on a different date each year, as well as the spontaneous (or otherwise) gatherings driven by a desire to join forces and commune together.By bringing together both French and international artists from different generations, the exhibition delves into our collective psyche, suggestingthat celebrations are something of a moveable formality. Alternatively, it evokes the possibility of reshaping our perception of celebration, which lies somewhere between ecstasy and ‘the morning after’.
