Caverne du Dragon, Chemin des Dames Museum

The Chemin des Dames was the scene of major battles in 1914, 1917 and 1918.

The beauty of the landscape today is in stark contrast to the fierce fighting 100 years ago. The Caverne du Dragon Museum is an essential first stop on the way to understanding these events. Below the front, this quarry was transformed into an underground barracks during the war, its many tunnels marked by the presence of soldiers. Chapel, first-aid stations, command posts and no man’s land all paint a moving picture of the lives of the French and German soldiers who lived, fought and sometimes shared the darkness of this place.
