Exhibition: ‘Van Gogh: Starry Night’ in Les Baux-de-Provence

Until 5 January 2020, the clouds, suns and portraits of Van Gogh’s greatest masterpieces are coming alive at an immersive exhibition at the Carrières de Lumières, at the foot of Les Baux-de-Provence.

This new visual and musical creation by the Carrières de Lumières, a unique place in Provence a few kilometres from Arles and Avignon, opened on 1 March.

Projected over 7,000m² of wall space, the Dutch painter’s most emblematic canvases are set in motion and allow visitors to travel through his poetic and tormented universe.

From Starry Night to Sunflowers, to the famous Bedroom painted in Arles, the exhibition traces Van Gogh’s intense life through the warm and colourful hues of Provence.

An XXL sensory experience

From floor to ceiling, 16 metres high, the immense production of the artist illuminates the gigantic space of the Carrières, which is also hosting ‘Japan Dreams: images of the floating world’, devoted to Japanese works and decorations that were important to Van Gogh.

When the music sounds, visitors literally enter the heart of the paintings thanks to the ‘AMIEX’ process (Art & Music Immersive Experience). The Carrières de Lumières has been hosting immersive artistic and sensory experiences since 2012.

Works by Gauguin, Picasso, Klimt, Goya and Chagall have already transformed this unusual art centre situated at the foot of the town of Les Baux-de-Provence, where you can also visit the chateau with a combined ticket.
