Five spas to pamper yourself near Bordeaux

Who doesn’t like to be pampered from time to time? Take advantage of your stay in the Bordeaux vineyards to check out the benefits of vinotherapy or simply get a massage in the vineyards. We reveal our favourite places for a spa break in and around Bordeaux.

1/ At the source

Even if Merlot is to be consumed in moderation, vinotherapy is highly recommended. We’d never have suspected the virtues of grape seeds before having the divine experience at the Sources de Caudalie. At the heart of the Bordeaux vineyards, check in at the Château Smith Haut Lafitte in Martillac. Indulge in exquisite spa treatments, float around the indoor pool and enjoy small dishes at Nicolas Masse’s two-Michelin-starred restaurant.

2/ Overlooking the vines

Saint-Emilion isn’t just a divine bottle of wine. It’s also home to a spa, tucked away in the Grand Barrail chateau setting. The jacuzzi overlooks the vines, allowing guests to unwind in a very natural environment. If you can drag yourself out, take a tour of the surrounding wine chateaux with the owners, who will undoubtedly provide a few vintages for you to sample.

3/ Roman style

It’s a Roman ambiance at Nuxe spa Les Bains de Léa, ideally located on the roof of the Intercontinental Hotel in Bordeaux. Leave your toga at the entrance and slip into the turquoise waters of these chic antique baths. Swim against the current between the imposing colonnades and heavy wallhangings. You’ll be intoxicated by the divinely scented steam of the hammam – and finish off with an extraordinary massage given by expert hands.

4/ In the dark

The removal of one of the senses is said to heighten the others. And it’s true! At Spa Dans le Noir, you can have exfoliating treatments, massages and facials – nothing exceptional on the face of it, except that all treatments are given in total darkness, and by blind or visually impaired therapists. A sensory rediscovery.

5/ Caviar and diamonds

While in Bordeaux, find an excuse to escape and sneak off to the Hotel de Sèze. There, ask for the Collier de la Reine (Queen’s Necklace). Precious stones, diamonds and caviar are the main ingredients used in this luxurious 90-minute facial, claiming to transform clients into beauty queens.
