How do I get my diploma recognised by a French university?

> Who should I contact?

To undertake studies in France, you must get in touch with the right contact:

- the administration of the establishment you want to attend if you are the holder of an end of secondary education diploma from a country outside the European Union,

- the school education department of the Ministry of National Education if you are the holder of a secondary school teaching diploma,

- the administration of your university or school if you have obtained a higher education diploma, to make a recognition request or a qualification exemption request.

> What is a comparability certificate?

In France, there is no principle of equivalence between qualifications and diplomas obtained abroad and the French diplomas issued by the Ministry of National Education. Nevertheless, the Centre international d'études pédagogiques (International education studies centre) (CIEP) − ENIC-NARIC Centre France – can draw up a comparability certificate that establishes a comparison between a diploma obtained abroad and the French education system. This certificate may be useful in the context of a job search and can be used to demonstrate the value of a foreign diploma to an employer. The cost of issuing a comparability certificate is 70 euros

> Which education courses are covered by the comparability certificate?

The issuing of a comparability certificate is not automatic; it is done case-by-case, after examination of a student's file and educational career. However, it covers the diplomas recognised by the competent authorities of the State that issued them and the courses leading to diplomas. Qualifying courses or diplomas that certify exclusively linguistic knowledge cannot be the subject of such a certification.
