Lower Normandy : Ingrained with memory
Even though it is above all known for its recent history, related to the famous "landings" during the Second World War, Lower Normandy also has outstanding sites and monuments and no less than 470 km of coastline!

Cultural heritage
The Mont-Saint-Michel
It gets its name from the rocky island dedicated to the archangel Michael on which an abbey, classified as an ancient monument, is built. It also takes in the bay, listed as a Unesco world heritage site, famous for its tides, which, so it is said, come in at the speed of a galloping horse.

The beaches of the landings
Omaha, Utah, Gold, Juno and Sword are the 5 beaches made famous by operation Overlord, the sea and parachute landings of Allied troops in Normandy in on the 6th of June 1944. They have preserved traces of the event: blockhouses marked by shell impacts.

Deauville
With its casino, luxury hotels, racecourse and Promenade des Planches, it is one France's most prestigious seaside resorts. Each year since 1975, its film festival has attracted the greatest stars of American cinema.

While Normandy butter and cream are the stuff of legend, the andouille de Vire, andouillette d'Alençon and boudin noir de Mortagne are amongst the most well-known pork products, not forgetting the trippes à la mode de Caen and Normandy AOC camembert.
