Cultural heritage

The cutlery of Thiers

A symbol of the social and economic history of the region, cutlery (notably the manufacturing of knives) is an institution. It has made Thiers the French capital of the knife for more than 6 centuries. Every year, 60 million pieces come out of the city's factories and workshops.

Exceptional sites

The Chaîne des Puys

Inseparable from the image of Auvergne, the Puys mountain chain stretches out nearly 50 miles and offers a profile of 80 domes and craters. With its rounded summit and 1,465m of altitude, the Puy-de-Dôme, a volcano reminiscent of Mount Pelee in Martinique, is without a doubt its most famous representative.

Its water doesn't need to be advertised anymore… As of the 16th century, visitors have been flocking to the city to take advantage of the waters. The stays of the Marquise de Sévigné and the daughters of Louis XV are legendary. However, it was in the 19th century under the impetus of Napoleon III that Vichy really blossomed.

With its cheeses, Le Puy green lentils, cooked meats and famous beef, Auvergne offers distinctive flavours. These dishes are enjoyed with a wine from Saint-Pourçain.
