The Musee d'Orsay was established in 1986 with the impetus of President Valery Giscard d'Estaing and reorganised in 2011. It is located in the former Orsay railroad station and has the largest collection of impressionist and postimpressionist works in the world by artists such as Manet, Renoir and Monet, with a total of 5,000 works for the period 1848-1944.
