Paris and its region, the Parisian basin, are at the centre of a huge river, road and rail network. While the Île-de-France region has the country's political and economic capital at its centre, it is nonetheless 80% made up of natural or agricultural spaces. The coexistence of green spaces with large urban areas makes it a land of contrasts, notable for its great biodiversity and the omnipresence of the Seine, one of the biggest rivers in France.
