Biography
Cambacérès (1753-1824)
Jean-Jacques Régis de Cambacérès, whose family was from the “noblesse de ...robe” (nobles who performed state functions), was elected as a member of parliament for the Hérault under the Convention. He was a prudent revolutionary, he stayed in the Marais, voted for the death of the Louis XVI while also immediately voting for a suspended sentence, and presented a first draft of the Civil Law to the Legislation Committee, which was rejected (1793).
