Aircraft, trains, cars, France enjoys one of the world's best performing and densest transport networks.
No large town in France is more than 1 hour 30 minutes from Paris. Paris's two large international airports, Orly and Roissy, serve many regional airports, Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseille, Nice, Strasbourg, Toulouse, etc. International flights also connect other large towns. Several times a day, an Air France shuttle makes the journey not only between the capital and the main provincial towns in an average of one hour but also between the provincial towns.
The TGV holds the rail speed record, at 574.8 km/h. In its commercial configuration, it carries passengers at 320 km/h from one end of France to the other. It is present throughout the country and offers a valuable alternative to air transport. In just about 3 hours you can get from the Champs-Élysées to the old port in Marseille. Strasbourg can be reached in 2 hours twenty minutes from Paris and Lille in just 1 hour.
With more than 11,000 km of motorways, the French road network is one of the world's best equipped. Added to this there are the national, regional and local major roads. In total, car drivers can travel throughout the country on more than 950,000 km of roads.
Finally, metro, tramway, bus… Paris and the large regional centres all have solid public transport infrastructures equipped with the latest technologies. And let's not forget the Vélib' and Autolib', those famous serve-yourself bicycles and electric cars that are creating a revolution in urban transport.
