From 16 to 28 July 2012, Gaou Island near Toulon is holding the 16th Les Voix du Gaou Festival. On the programme: Gossip, Sting, Ben Harper…and the party atmosphere of Mediterranean nights.

An international music programme, an exceptional natural setting, a Mediterranean climate perfect for long summer nights – that's the unique recipe of the Les Voix du Gaou Festival. Started in 1997, this contemporary music festival is organised every year in the Var, the most popular tourist area in France, on the little peninsula of Gaou after which it takes its name. Located in the commune of Six-Fours-les-Plages a few kilometers from Toulon, this little piece of the earth covered in a pine forest is an amazing natural setting, which the festival-goers really love.

On the music side, the festival programme includes big names from the international scene and promising young talent. In 2009, for example, the French electro-rock rock group Shaka Ponk opened for Motorhead. In 2012, they are back as stars in their own right with their new album The geeks and the jerkin'socks.

Pop, rock, reggae, electro, French scene… Like every year, this festival in the Var offers an eclectic programme. Well-known artists appearing in this 16th year are Gossip and their charismatic singer Beth Ditto, the made group from New York The Rapture, Sting with his inimitable voice plus Ben Harper with his mix of rock, folk and blues.

Reggae and ska fans won't be left out – there is a Jamaican evening on 20th July, with the Alborosie & Shengen clan, Lee Perry & The Robotiks and the Macka B & Roots Ragga Band. New talents include Hannah (Folk rock) opening for Ben Harper, Hyphen Hyphen (Electro rock), Mina May (Indie Rock) and Isaya (Folk).
