Every year at the beginning of June, Annecy becomes the capital of animated film for six days. It is an opportunity for professionals and fans to discover new productions from around the world.
Since 1960, the city of Annecy in Haute-Savoie has hosted the Festival International du Film d'Animation d'Annecy (Annecy International Animated Film Festival), an event that brings together fans and professionals of the sector. For six days, the city comes alive through screenings held in various venues across the city and on the Pâquier, a vast outdoor promenade along Lake Annecy. Each edition focuses on a different theme. The festival has traditions: Tuesday evening is dedicated to Walt Disney, Friday evening to Canal+ (TV) and Saturday evening to the showing of the feature film awarded by the jury.
After these screenings, several prizes are awarded: the Cristal for Best Feature, the Annecy Cristal (for short films), the Cristal for Best TV Production, the "Jean-Luc Xiberras" Award for a First Film, the Award for Best Music Video and the Audience Award for Feature Films.
The Mifa for professionals
The festival also enables professionals to meet at the Marché International du Film d’Animation (Mifa, or International Animation Film Market). This three-day event is dedicated to the development of the animation industry to encourage the creation of projects and distribution of works, promote inter-professional exchanges and meetings, close partnerships and co-productions, and also discover the latest trends in the sector.
